Residential Trash and Single Stream Recycling Collection 

 

There will be no change to the trash/recycle schedule on Monday, February 20, 2012.    Trash/Recycling will be picked up on your scheduled day.

Trash Tips:

Please set your trash cart out by 7 a.m. on the day of collection or the night before and return it to your house by 9 p.m.

If your trash doesn’t fit in your cart, you may:


• Request an extra TDS cart for an additional $5.00 per month fee by calling
393-8026

•Purchase garbage tags for $5.00 each at City of San Marcos Utility offices at 630 E Hopkins or 1040 Hwy 123

• Request a bulk/brush pick up - limited to 3 cubic yards, 4 times per year per resident

FREE bulky/brush waste pickup (furniture, appliances, yard waste) may be scheduled for your collection day the first and third full weeks of the month by calling 393-8026 by 2 p.m. the previous business day.  Branches less than 5" in diameter must be cut to 4- foot lengths, tied and bundled, weighing no more than 35 pounds; branches that are not tied and bundled will not be picked up or over 5" in diameter

Landfill Access: San Marcos customers may take up to 5 cubic yards of yard waste to TDS Landfill, (3606 FM 1327 Buda, TX 78610) each month at no additional charge. Only yard waste like branches or bags of leaves will be accepted, no other bulky items are permitted. You must take your driver's license and a copy of your utility bill showing  you pay for garbage service and make sure you cover the load with a tarp.

Single Stream Recycling Items

Will accept:

  • Paper:  Newspaper, office paper, junk mail, magazines, boxboard, and cardboard
  • Tin and Aluminum:  Food or beverage cans
  • Plastic:  Rigid plastic jugs and bottles and round plastic tubs #'s 1-7
  • Glass:  Unbroken Glass and bottles of any color

Will not accept:

  • Disposal plastic bags, ovenable meat trays, any form of styrofoam, pizza boxes, or plastic disposable meat trays.

TDS Trash Collection in San Marcos
 

Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) provides trash collection for residential customers. The map shows the days for once-a-week pickup in five zones. The City’s trash service includes picking up large bulky items and lawn trimmings two times a monthEach resident is limited to three (3) cubic yards of bulk trash four (4) times per year. You must call 393-8026 no later than 2:00 p.m. the previous business day to schedule a bulk waste or lawn trimmings pickup.  Large items are picked up on the 1st & 3rd full weeks of each month on your collection day.  Here are the next days for large item pickup:

Zone 1: Monday, February 6 & 20

Zone 2: Tuesday, February 7 & 21

Zone 3: Wednesday, February 8 & 22

Zone 4: Thursday, February 9 & 23

Zone 5: Friday, February 10 & 24

Bulk waste includes old furniture, hot water tanks, mattresses, etc. (Try to donate to a charity if your unwanted items are still usable). Trees, shrub and brush will also be picked up. Please cut branches into 4-foot lengths and tie them in bundles weighing no more than 35 pounds.

Bulk items that will not be picked up:

  • Branches that are not tied and bundled
  • Tree stumps or branches larger than 5" in diameter or longer than 5'
  • Tires
  • Rocks, bricks or dirt
  • Appliances container Freon, not tagged by a licensed technician
  • Hazardous waste
  • Construction debris generated from commercial remodel or demolition

  • *A/C units ($5 fee for Freon extraction)
  • *Refrigerators ($10 fee for Freon extraction)

  • Box Springs
  • Anything a magnet will stick to--even if rusted
  • Computer Monitors (disposal fee - $0.25 per pound)

* No fee to San Marcos residents

Auto Recyclables:
  • Junk Vehicles -(only if completely drained of fluids and empty of trash)
  • Oil and Oil Filters (50-cents per filter)
  • Antifreeze
  • Car Batteries
  • Oils- Engine, hydraulic, brake, transmission, power steering fluid
  • *Tires- (18.5" and below $2)
  • Any other equipment tire, etc. fee varies $15.00 and up

* No fee to San Marcos residents

  • Cannot accept mattresses
  • Cannot accept televisions
Apartments and Commercial Customers

Apartment residents are served through private contractors provided by the apartment complex for trash collection but will use the City contractor for recycle services.  Commercial businesses must make their own arrangements for trash and recycle collection with private contractors. Apartment residents may still use the Green Guy Recycling Drop Off Center.
