LBJ-MLK Crossroads Memorial Project
The LBJ/MLK Crossroads Memorial Project aims to build a memorial marker at the intersection of LBJ and MLK Drives in San Marcos. After years of building this dream, we are ready to choose a design but need your help. You are invited to view the finalists' designs for the LBJ/MLK Crossroads Memorial Project on Thursday, February 16, anytime between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m.
Stop by the San Marcos Activity Center to meet the 3 Crossroads finalists and give your input on the choice of the best design for the LBJ/MLK Crossroads Memorial. The three finalists are: coLab Studio, LLC of Tempe, AZ; Aaron Hussey of Baton Rouge, LA.; and the team of O’Connell-Hancock of Tucson, AZ.

Call for Artist Qualifications:
LBJ-MLK Crossroads Memorial Project 
The City of San Marcos and the LBJ-MLK Crossroads Memorial Project-San Marcos, TX seeks to commission a permanent, site-specific, outdoor installation commemorating the individual and collaborative achievements of President Lyndon Baines Johnson and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the unique intersection of streets named for them in San Marcos, Texas.

ARTS MASTER PLAN
The vision of the San Marcos Arts Commission is a city in which artistic excellence is celebrated, supported, and available to all. In order to see this vision come to life, the commission is embarking on the development of an Arts Master Plan for the community. The first stage of this process is to compile a local inventory of arts and cultural assets. These assets include individual performing and visual artists, arts organizations, art galleries, arts organizations, cultural organizations, art teachers, public art venues, performance venues, etc. Diann McCabe, Chair of the Arts Commission recently lead a workshop for the commission to identify these assets. “While the members brainstormed and came up with many assets, we know that we did not identify everything.” McCabe stated. “We want this master plan to be a community project, with input from every facet of the community, including artists, performers, businesses, teachers, students, and anyone else who is interested in developing and showcasing our artistic community.” The commission is asking all interested artists, organizations, and business to provide their contact information and brief description of their artistic contributions to the community.

MISSION
To promote tourism to San Marcos and enrich our city and its diverse cultural heritage by supporting works of artistic excellence, advancing arts education and strengthening the arts in the community.
The Arts Commission is appointed by the City Council and provides oversight for the expenditure of city hotel occupancy tax funds for the promotion of the arts, including instrumental and vocal music, dance, drama, folk art, creative writing, architecture, design and allied fields, painting , sculpture, photography, graphic and craft arts, motion picture, radio, television, tape and sound recording, and other arts related to the presentation, performance, execution, and exhibition of the major art forms. |
