Pickleball Open Play

Pickleball Open Play is offered Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 11:30 AM for ages 18 and up. We have six courts for Pickleball, which has allowed us to designate three courts as competitive courts and three courts as recreation courts. This has helped us accommodate our growing number of advanced and beginner level Pickleball players. Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis and ping-pong. It is played on a badminton-sized court 20 ft. by 44 ft. with paddles, a wiffle ball and a net that is lowered to 34 inches. Players volley the ball back and forth to try to score on the opposition. Pickleball is free for Activity Center members. Non-members are charged the daily use rate $6.00 for adults 18 to 59, $3.00 for ages 60 and above. For more information, call 512.393.8280.

60+ Step By Step Painting sponsored by United Healthcare

Join us for Step by Step Painting, sponsored by UnitedHealthcare. Our next class will have a little twist to it where participants will be painting a canvas tote bag, instead of painting on a standard art canvas. Each bag will be unique, as participants decorate their individual bags. Stencils and patterns will be available for participants to use in the decorating process. This is a free event and all supplies will be provided by UnitedHealthcare and San Marcos Parks and Recreation. The next Step by Step Painting will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Dunbar Recreation Center located at 801 West MLK. Registration is required and is limited to 40. Register for Step By Step Painting by visiting sanmarcostx.gov/activesmtx and clicking on ACTIVITIES or by calling 512-393-8280. This program fills up fast and has people on a waitlist. If you register and are unable to come, please withdraw so others may attend.

Bat Night at the Gardens

Join staff at the San Marcos Discovery Center for an informal, free, family-friendly event focused on bats! Use bat detectors to discover what bat species are found in our area, explore creatures that are dependent upon bats for food and creatures bats depend on for their own survival. Open to all ages. No registration required.
