What time are the cemetery gates locked?: The cemetery will be open daily for visiting, care of graves and other appropriate uses from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during Central Standard Time, and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during Central Daylight Savings Time. Cemetery FAQs

1. What are the cemetery hours?: The cemetery will be open daily for visiting, care of graves, and other appropriate uses from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during Central Standard Time, and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during Central Daylight Savings Time. The gates are locked at closing time.

2. Are solar lights, spinners, swings, and/or wind chimes allowed?: These items are not allowed in the cemetery. No items are to be hung from trees.

3. How do I find out if there are available plots for sale?: Contact the caretaker during regular business hours Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 512-748-9671 to schedule a tour.

4. Who do I contact to make a payment on my plot?: Contact the Parks and Recreation Department to make a credit card payment by phone at 512-393-8400. You can mail a check to Parks and Recreation Department 630 E. Hopkins, San Marcos TX, 78666. Attention: Cemetery. Include your account number in the memo line.

5. Who do I contact for urgent matters, after hours (i.e. a pipe is broken, etc.)?: You may contact the San Marcos Police Department Non-emergency line at 512-753-2108.

6. Are glass vases allowed on a grave site?: No, glass vases are not allowed in the cemetery at all. Vases that are made of a compliant material and are attached to the base of the monument are allowed. Another option is an inverted vase that can be purchased from a local monument company, or a piece of PVC pipe that is flush with the ground to put artificial flowers in.

7. Are statues, figurines, and/or memorabilia allowed on a grave site?: These items are allowed as long as the items are on the monument and are not in the way of mowing and/or weed eating. The items are allowed for a period of two weeks. After that time or when they become a hazard to mowing they will be removed. If you want the items, please remove them before the two week period ends.

Animals feeders or animal houses are not allowed. No items may be hung from any tree, shrub or plant.

9. What are the approved materials for monuments and benches?: Lots may have benches of marble, granite, concrete, or material approved by the cemetery commission. Any other structural amenities, which must also be primarily of marble or granite, must have the approval of the cemetery commission before being placed on the lot.

10. When and where are the Cemetery Commission Meetings?: The meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of the month. See the posted Agenda for time and location.

11. When are the Cemetery Cleanups?: Please check the Cemetery home page for clean up dates. All items not in compliance with City cemetery regulations will be removed from the burial sites and held for families to pick up for 30 days at the cemetery maintenance shop. Prohibited items include glass containers, solar lights, spinners, swings and wind chimes.

12. Who do I contact to take a tour of the cemetery?: Contact the Caretaker during regular business hours. Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 512-748-9671 to schedule a tour.

15. Are grave liners required?: Yes. The mortuary performing interment services, for any casketed remains, must use a grave liner made of concrete, metal, poly, or other material approved under state law.

16. Can I water my plot(s)?: Yes. Water is for landscape irrigation use only. Watering is allowed only by hand-held hose or by sprinkler connected to a hose while the person that connected the sprinkler is present and only on the days and times designated in the approved irrigation conservation plan for the cemetery. No other temporary or permanent irrigation systems or connections shall be allowed. You can find the current restrictions here.
