Main Street Honors Downtown Businesses

The San Marcos Main Street Program recognized several downtown businesses, partners, and volunteers at its 8thannual Love Downtown Awards Friday, Feb. 24.  

The event honored the contributions of downtown merchants and volunteers who work tirelessly to foster a downtown that is a unique and culturally lively destination, where people of all ages can connect, create and celebrate.

“We are fortunate that Downtown San Marcos is home to such an incredible business community,” said Downtown Manager Josie Falletta. “We appreciate all of the community members who submitted nominations and helped us recognize these businesses, partners, and volunteers.” 

Award recipients included:

Business of the Year: The Halal Project

Recognizes a best-in-class business that contributes to the economic growth and quality of life in Downtown San Marcos and whose practices and professional conduct contribute to a sense of partnership within the entire business community. 

Downtown Legend: Bobcat Quickie

Recognizes a business that has been in operation for ten years or more and whose contributions have shaped the fabric of Downtown San Marcos. 

Outstanding New Business: Jax Burgers

Recognizes a business that has been in operation for two years or less and has contributed to the economic growth and quality of life in Downtown San Marcos. 

Innovation Award: Blind Salamander Cantina

Recognizes an individual, business or organization who has done something new and exciting. They are an activator and advocate for downtown and ambassador for the community.

Partner of the Year: San Marcos Planning and Development Services Department 

Recognizes a partner who supports downtown and the Main Street Program.

Kelly Franks Award (Volunteer of the Year): Texas State University Delta Sigma Phi

Recognizes an individual or organization who dedicates their time and energy to downtown projects, initiatives and events. Named after Kelly Franks, who was the Main Street Manager for over 20 years.

 

About the San Marcos Main Street Program:

San Marcos was designated in 1986 as an official Main Street City by the Texas Historical Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation and remains one of the oldest Main Street programs in the state. The vision of the San Marcos Main Street Program is to foster a downtown that is a unique and culturally vibrant destination, where local business thrive and people of all ages can connect, create and celebrate.
