The Parking Enforcement division of the City Marshal's Department provides for the enforcement of the City's parking ordinances. The team patrols throughout the City of San Marcos daily (Monday-Friday) preparing and issuing parking citations. The following parking rules and regulations are enforced:
2-hour time-limited parking
Residential permit parking
Coordinate towing of abandoned or illegally parked vehicles
Fire lanes and fire hydrants
No parking zones
Blocking lane of traffic or driveway
Sidewalk, left lane, back-in/head-in
The City of San Marcos does not manage private off-street parking lots with the exceptions of handicap parking, fire lane, fire zone, and fire hydrants. SMPD parking enforcement does not regulate or enforce parking on the Texas State University campus.
As of March 1, 2018, the parking enforcement officers will begin using License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to help manage downtown parking.
