Fireworks during the Fourth of July are as American as apple-pie, but did you know that 2 out of 5 fires reported on that day are started by fireworks, more than for any other cause? Here are a few simple safety tips to enjoy your holiday and the fireworks:
Leave the fireworks to the professionals. Do not use consumer fireworks.
The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted by trained professionals.
Be extra careful with sparklers. Little arms are too short to hold sparklers, which can heat up to 1,200 degrees. How about this? Let your young children use glow sticks instead. They can be just as fun but they don’t burn at a temperature hot enough to melt glass.
After the firework display, children should never pick up fireworks that may be left over, they may still be active.
