San Marcos Transit

The City of San Marcos Transit division provides top quality, professional, effective and timely transit services to the community through our partnership with Capital Area Rural Transportation Systems (CARTS).

CARTS recently introduced five new buses to the fleet serving San Marcos, now called SMTX THE BUS. SMTX THE BUS is a newer, cleaner, greener city bus system that will revolutionize San Marcos transit. The new buses double as a mobile office with free Wi-Fi on board. All buses are equipped with a bike rack for up to two bikes, space available on a first come first serve basis.

THE BUS is free for Texas State University students and staff (with Texas State I.D.), and half-price for seniors, persons with disabilities (ADA application necessary) and elementary through high school students (with student I.D.). Escorted children 5 and under ride free.

Fare is $1 for a one way ride, $2 for an all-day pass, and $30 for a monthly pass. Passes can be purchased on the bus or at the bus station located at 338 S. Guadalupe ST. exact change required.
