Adult Pickleball Open Play
There have been some changes made to the Adult Pickleball Program offered at the Activity Center. First, the Activity Center will be closed on Thursdays. Pickleball is now offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Also, you must sign up to reserve a time slot to play. There are two, separate, one hour and a half time slots that are available each day Pickleball is offered. The first time slot is from 8:30 - 10:00 AM and the next time slot is from 10:15 - 11:45 AM. You are only allowed to sign up for one time slot per day.
There will be four courts set up, with a maximum of four people per court with four people waiting/resting in each gym. Play lasts for an hour and a half and it is open play for both gyms. The gyms are no longer designated as competitive or recreational. Participants must bring their own Pickleball paddles and ball (the green Jugs balls can be purchased through the front desk attendants). Players will only serve their ball.
Masks must be worn while you are inside the Activity Center. All players must adhere to proper social distancing guidelines. All players must agree that they have read and understand the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department Release and Waiver of Liability and will have to check the box that Constitutes Acceptance of said Release and Waiver when signing up for a time slot. Click here to view the Release and Waiver of Liability. The Adult Pickleball Open Play rules and guidelines are subject to change without notice.
Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis and ping-pong. It is played on a badminton-sized court 20 feet by 44 feet with wooden paddles, a wiffle ball and a net that is lowered to 34 inches. Players volley the ball back and forth to try to score on the opposition. It was designed to be easy to learn for people of all ages and athletic abilities. In the past 10 years the growth of Pickleball has exploded mainly in senior communities throughout the United States.
Pickleball is free for Activity Center members. Nonmembers will be charged the daily use rate of $3.00 for residents and $4.00 for nonresidents. If you would like to learn more about the sport you are welcome to attend a session to observe and give it a try, free of charge.
